Demolition of redundant University Buildings

Abyss Demolition completed mechanical demolition of the redundant Star of the Sea Buildings in Southport, which included single and double story buildings, and a 5-story building in the corner of the site.

The demolition uncovered a time capsule, which was buried in 1988 by the Catholic order who ran the school at the time. This caught the attention of the media and the Local Council, and provided a photo opportunity for past students, and the City Mayor, Tom Tate.

The capsule was opened on September 8th 2016 by Mayor Tom Tate, Cr Dawn Crichlow, Ms Frankie and fellow former student Helen Wood, who attended from 1953 to 1961.

The one metre tube contained a range of mementos, including poems, letters, photos of then-popular fashion, a school uniform, a Catholic rosary, an envelope containing chalk and even $17 in 80s currency.
