Does Abyss only operate in Queensland?

While Abyss has depots in Brisbane, Yatala and Townsville, and predominantly work in Queensland, we are well-equipped to handle large-scale projects nationwide. Our large fleet of vehicles and machinery facilitate cost-effective mobilisation to remote areas.

Where is asbestos found?

The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency has released a Guide detailing how and when asbestos products were used in Australia. Access this Asbestos Safety – Asbestos Guide to learn more about where asbestos may be found. Although this is a great tool for information, asbestos testing by a NATA accredited laboratory is the only way to accurately confirm the presence of asbestos. How can I confirm if there is asbestos? Does Abyss do asbestos testing?

Our Estimators, over their many years of working in the industry, have a strong understanding of evaluating the likelihood asbestos at your site. However, to accurately determine whether a material contains asbestos or not, a sample of the material must undergo testing. Asbestos testing must be performed in a NATA accredited laboratory. For absolute peace of mind, Abyss can provide an independent licensed asbestos assessor to perform a comprehensive audit of your site, complete with a relevant sample results and survey report. 

Do you demolish houses?

Yes. Our team are experienced in completing residential demolitions including safe removal of asbestos prior to demolition. Contact Abyss to arrange to clear your site ready to rebuild your new home.

Do you provide free quotes?

Yes. Our estimators can inspect the site and provide a free quote for an agreed scope of work.

Do you sell salvaged items?

While we do salvage all recoverable items from our sites, we do not operate a salvage yard with items for resale. Abyss recycles materials at independent waste and recycling facilities to ensure landfill is kept to a minimum.

What does Abyss require prior to demolition?

Prior to demolition works commencing, certain preparation items need to be completed depending on the project. Abyss Demolition is able to take care of these items or partner with you to ensure smooth continuity of your project.

Some common requirements include

  • A demolition permit must be obtained from an authorised certifier.
  • You may need to acquire a tree removal permit depending on the size and location of the tree(s). These permits can be obtained from your local council.
  • The sewerage needs to be capped off. A licensed plumber must be engaged to attend site and perform this.
  • If the site has a septic tank, this will need to be pumped empty ready for decommissioning.
  • The electricity service and meter to the property need to be abolished or a temporary builder’s supply installed. You should contact your electricity retailer to organise this. Please note: Getting the service abolished is different to getting it disconnected.
  • The gas meter must be abolished. You will need to contact your retail gas provider for the relevant forms to complete for your area. This cannot be arranged by Abyss as abolishment of gas must be requested by the account holder.
  • Temporary fencing may be required for your project. This is dependent on several variables, including as whether an existing site fence is suitable for creating an exclusion zone and will remain for the duration of the works. Speak to one of our experienced Estimators to discuss your project requirements.
What does the site look like after demolition?

Depending on the project requirements and client preference, Abyss ensures all demolition waste and coarse material (greater than 80mm) are removed from site. The site will be track rolled on completion to follow the natural contour of the ground. We can also coordinate the installation of turf or spray-turf. If your site requires something specific, contact our competent and friendly Project Managers to find a solution that suits your needs.

What is the turnaround time for my project?

Abyss are renowned for completing projects on or ahead of schedule however there are many variables that can influence the scheduling and completion of projects. Discuss your project requirements and timelines with our Project Managers so we can find the best outcome for you.
