demolition of waterslide at Seaworld theme park

Seaworld, Gold Coast

Demolition Flume Ride

Abyss Demolition was engaged to demolish the final remaining sections of the historic Viking’s Revenge Flume Ride. This ride served park-goers from 1979 to 2016, and was finally removed in 2023 to make way for Seaworld’s next big attraction.

The demolition project included removal of the remaining sections of fibeglass slide, the rail structure to bring new carriages to the top of the slide, and the large gazebo-style staging area. As the ride was situated right in the middle of the Park, works were completed overnight, with the site needing to be cleaned and made safe every morning for Park re-opening.

A mixture of mechanical demolition and Cut-and-Crane methods were implemented to successfully deliver the works.

Key aspects

  • Collaboration with local crane contractor for Cut-and-Crane demolition method
  • Night works, with extensive task lighting
  • Daily Park re-opening required a clean site at the end of every shift
  • Works within theme park required innovative material transport techniques, due to tight accessways
