Strip out of Old Ipswich Courthouse

Abyss Demolition completed a major strip out of the old Courthouse building in Ipswich, returning over 8000m2 of floor space back to a ‘concrete shell’ – ready for refurbishment.

Key aspects

  • Major internal strip out of over 8000m2 of floor space
  • Tight underground carpark access required small trucks and waste bins, for removal of building material from site
  • Engineered propping of internal slabs, to allow use of small excavator and skid steer on suspended slab
  • Major clean upon completion, prior to handover

The strip out of the old courthouse included removal of all non-structural and cosmetic elements, and required excavators and skid steer’s to be used on suspended slabs. Engineers were engaged to design a backpropping plan for the suspended slabs, and small crane winches were used to transport the machinery across the levels, through a staircase shaft that was removed.

The project included removal of old plant from the rooftop plant deck, and a final clean, handing the building back to the developers, to give it a new life.
