Demolition of BOC Gas & Gear Rocklea

In 2018, Abyss Demolition performed the demolition of the Acetylene Dock, Compressor Room, Test Shop and Shed Building at the BOC Rocklea site. Our A Class licenced and experienced asbestos crew removed asbestos prior to demolition. With the aid of a crane and boom lift, Abyss staff cut and lifted pieces of the concrete structure to ensure safe demolition of the dustbin. To ensure safe completion of this job at a live explosive infrastructure site, we used plasma cutting to dismantle the large structure.

Site Preparation

• Engage engineers to collaborate on methodology
• Applied for and secured local council permits for works
• Establish exclusion zone within the premises

Safety

• Safely removed asbestos, verified by air monitoring conducted by an independent licenced hygienist and clearance certificates
• Working at heights on elevated work platforms

Site works

• Safe removal and disposal of compressor oil
• Remove awning frame to building
• Leave slab in a neat condition
