QUT Kelvin Grove, E & L Blocks
The project at the Queensland University of Technology Kelvin
Grove campus involved the demolition of two existing multi-storey
buildings. These buildings required protective containment
scaffolding to be installed to the exterior in order to minimise
disruption to the University and ensure the safety of its
users.
In order for the new development to comply with strict Green
Star Rating requirements, Abyss Demolition took special care to
ensure maximum recycling of suitable demolition materials, with
more than 1000 tonnes being taken to recycling facilities.
The discovery of asbestos materials located between the concrete
of one of the buildings resulted in the entire building being
treated as asbestos contaminated material which was supervised by
our qualified and experienced asbestos team. Abyss Demolition is a
licenced asbestos removal contractor and holds A Class asbestos
removal licencing, and employs experienced supervisors and
labourers for our asbestos removalist teams. We have personnel who
are trained and qualified in the removal of both friable and
non-friable asbestos materials.
On completion of the demolition work, Abyss Demolition then
carried out the civil earthworks components of the project. This
involved the removal of asbestos contaminated soil and cut and fill
works to the specifications required by the client.
Abyss Demolition integrated Quality, Health & Safety &
Environmental which comply to international standards. This, along
with the combined experience of its management staff, supervision
and labour crews, means Abyss Demolition can effectively meet the
complex safety and environmental needs of commercial and large
scale projects.
